The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UN-CDF) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs(UN-DESA) representatives together with The County Officials paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot on Thursday 5th October 2023 on Asset Management.

The team was led by Dr. Bernadette Wanjala who was accompanied by Wanjiku Gitonga of UNCDF and Mr. Momanyi from the Council of Governors.

The DG reiterated the importance of asset management and encouraged the team to embrace new approaches as proposed by the UN Team.

Eng. Barorot reiterated the importance of technology applications that can keep all the data of the assets, “There is a need to relook at how to keep a proper record of our assets. The record should be able to be queried at any time and give information on the status of the asset. This will enable timely financial and operational planning. This will help to avoid equipment lying idle for several months due to a small breakdown that could easily be identified if proper digital records existed,” said the DG.

Tito Koiyet, the Municipality Manager talked about the improvement of the existing assets register to accommodate more help and information about the assets ” Most of our assets are not documented hence inadequate planning on them, assets like River Sosiani,Our Roads, Water Bodies, financial systems among other assets usually are not captured as Assets.

“We also need to formulate elaborate policies, produces, and guidelines on assets management,” said The Municipality Manager.

On her part, Ms Bernadette Wanjala said asset management records help to monitor the Asset. “With assets records, one can have asset information from the procurement of the assets, during acquisition, usage of the asset, maintenance of the asset and finally disposal of the asset, which will help reduce wastages and delays that are not necessary.” Said Bernadette
Ms Wanjiku Gitonga of UN-CDF insisted on the importance of keeping a good Asset register, “The register if well maintained will reduce disruption of service delivery during breakdown and helps in asset generation hence increasing own source revenue, this also help reduction of more acquisitions given proper information status of existing assets ” Wanjiku said.

The team is in Uasin Gishu County for a two-day training of staff on the proper Asset management recording and planning. Also present were the Procurement Director Newton Choge, Roads Director Eng. Benjamin Kirongo, Assets Manager CPA Masai Cherokony among other Municipality staff
