The World Bank, through the Kenya Urban Support Program 2, is collaborating with the consultancy firm ALPEX Consulting Africa Limited to develop nature-based solutions for urban areas in Eldoret City.
Speaking as he hosted ACAL Consultancy in his office, Tito Koiyet, the City Manager noted that data collection is a critical component in planning for the City.
“We are pleased to have ACAL Consultancy in our city for data collection. As an urban environment, we face environmental challenges from both natural factors and human activities. Drainage issues and environmental pollution remain significant concerns for us,” stated Tito Koiyet, the City Manager.
“To address these challenges, we have a solid plan for Eldoret City, including converting waste to energy at our dumpsite, improving our drainage systems, upgrading green spaces, and safeguarding our wetlands to enhance our city’s climate resilience,” Tito further explained.
“The Global Centre on Adaptation is committed to helping cities boost their urban resilience by implementing natural solutions that will enable them to swiftly recover from environmental crises like floods, earthquakes, climate change, and pollution,” highlighted Ian Kabimba, a representative from the consulting firm.
Eldoret City is among the five cities and municipalities in Kenya selected for implementing nature-based solutions in urban areas. The other locations include Kisumu City, Nakuru City, Kilifi Municipality, and Wote Municipality.
