Eldoret scoops Awards for strides made towards city status.

The Eldoret Municipality was feted at the Town County and Planners Association Conference that ended in Eldoret on Friday.

Governor Jonathan Bii received the two certificates that were awarded to Eldoret Municipality, where he reiterated that planers play a crucial role in ensuring towns and urban are orderly and neat for development.

“Planners play a very critical role in shaping Cities and Towns across the globe, in my experiences in Korea and Dubai, planners must have given their Best!”

The two certificates are the City Award of Excellence and Municipal Board Awards for the milestones made towards the City status.

” Here in Eldoret, we are soon being elevated into a City, we will also be launching the Railway City with the President here in Eldoret, all these will be possible by the fact that the planners have done their part in designing what amenities to be where and which roads to lead in and out,” said the Governor.

On his part, the Chair of the Planner’s Association, Professor Mairura commended the City of Champions as the City of the Moment.” Planner’s allow making an environment a better place for people to live in, Eldoret is such a place,” said the Chairman.

Dr. Janet Kosgey, the CECM for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development, thanked the organizers for choosing Eldoret to host their Conference.

“Planning is becoming an increasingly important aspect in the current life due to Urbanization which brings population pressure to the towns and Cities,” said the executive.

County Secretary, Edwin Bett, said: “With proper planning, humans can economically utilize available space to ensure food security.”

Eldoret Municipality Board Chairperson, Julius Kitur thanked the association for hosting the conference two years consecutively in Eldoret.

“It is good the association has realized that Eldoret is the place to host the conference continuously given that even the African Football Federation has also identified Eldoret as one of the Hosting Cities for the AFCON 2027,” said Kitur, who also chairs the Chairpersons of Municipalities Caucus.
