As Eldoret ushers in a new season with its finest weather, residents are invited to embrace the great outdoors and enjoy the city’s natural beauty.
City Manager Tito Koiyet highlighted this perfect moment for families to spend quality time outside, especially after enduring the colder months. Weekends, in particular, offer an ideal opportunity to experience the refreshing climate and scenic surroundings.
The City of Eldoret boasts one of the best climatic conditions in Kenya, and probably the world. Nestled at an altitude of about 2,100 meters above sea level, Eldoret enjoys a temperate climate characterized by cool mornings and evenings, and mild afternoons.
The city experiences two main rainy seasons, from March to June and again from October to December, with average annual temperatures ranging from 12°C to 25°C.
This favourable weather not only supports agricultural activities but also nurtures a rich variety of tree species, creating a lush, green environment throughout the year.
Eldoret’s scenic beauty is enhanced by a diverse array of trees, both indigenous and exotic. Among the standout species is the Nandi Flame Tree (Spathodea campanulate, or S. nilotica), an indigenous tree renowned for its brilliant showy reddish-orange or crimson flowers that bloom this time of the year providing a blend of ornamental and indigenous flora that makes Eldoret an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable city.
The city is also graced by Jacaranda trees, whose purple blossoms provide a striking contrast during the season which line the streets, offering shade and a fresh ambience. Native species like the Croton and African Olive (Olea africana) trees contribute to the biodiversity and natural beauty of the fifth city in Kenya. Together, these trees form a rich canopy that not only beautifies the cityscape but also enhances its air quality, biodiversity, and overall quality of life.
Eldoret’s blend of climate and greenery makes it a truly picturesque urban area, with trees playing a central role in maintaining the city’s vibrant, refreshing, and natural charm.
The manager noted that in a few years, the newly planted and carefully selected ornamental trees in the city streets will enhance the appeal of the city even more.
